0025 The EICUG Software Working Group’s initial focus will be on
0026 simulations of physics processes and detector response to enable
0027 quantitative assessment of measurement capabilities and their physics
0028 impact. This will be pursued in a manner that is accessible,
0029 consistent, and reproducible to the EICUG as a whole.

0031 It will embody simulations of all processes that make up the EIC
0032 science case as articulated in the white paper. The Software working
0033 group is to engage with new major initiatives that aim to further
0034 develop the EIC science case, including for example the upcoming INT
0035 program(s), and is anticipated to play key roles also in the
0036 preparations for the EIC project(s) and its critical decisions. The
0037 working group will build on the considerable progress made within the
0038 EIC Software Consortium (eRD20) and other efforts. The evaluation or
0039 development of experiment-specific technologies, e.g. mass storage,
0040 clusters or other, are outside the initial scope of this working group
0041 until the actual experiment collaborations are formed.

0043 The working group will be open to all members of the EICUG to work on
0044 EICUG related software tasks. It will communicate via its [mailing
0045 list](mailto:eicug-software@eicug.org) and organize regular online and
0046 in-person meetings that enable broad and active participation from
0047 within the EICUG as a whole.
